The splash of abstract color behind the horse and jockey is the artwork of an actual champion thoroughbred. General Quarters, 2010 Kentucky Derby contender and Bluegrass Stakes winner, produced this work of art by knocking over buckets of paint with his nose. I thought it would be an interesting and original idea to use an actual horse to contribute artwork to this painting. Tom McCarthy, owner of General Quarters, thought so, too.
