Can You Find...?

Can you find the history, symbols, and
representations of Louisville hidden within
the "Louisa Villea"?
Complete information about the "Louisa Villea"

"Louisa Villea" Detail

"Louisa Villea" Close-up
Within the Fleur-de-Lis earring is a Kentucky Cluster of real diamonds.  The "Louisa Villea" is the only oil painting ever to incorporate actual gems within the painting.
Louisa is fictional.  She represents the blending of the race, creed, and color that makes Louisville, Kentucky a world-class city.  If you are using a tiltable LCD monitor you can actually change her ethnicity to see how she represents all of Louisville's citizenship.

Birth Of A Painting

Stretched and primed, the five-foot by
six-foot canvas is ready to begin
the "Louisa Villea" project.
The painting was completed in March 2008.

Final Touch

"Our Old Kentucky Home" is a follow-up work to Louisville's premier painting, the "Louisa Villea."  "Our Old Kentucky Home"  honors Louisville's significance in the world community and features the city's prominence in sports on the national stage.  The gray racehorse in the picture is a Louisville championship thoroughbred named General Quarters.  Owned by Louisvillian Tom McCarthy, General Quarters was a 2009 Kentucky Derby contender.  Louisville's championship thoroughbred is also a contributing artist to this work.  By knocking over buckets of paint with his nose, General Quarters produced the abstract splash of color behind the horse and jockey.

This painting incorporates lyrics from a song I wrote in 1996.
I thought of thoughts just yesterday...
I couldn't quite conceive.
I dreamed some dreams on top of that...
and dared not to believe.
I whispered love in life's sweet ear...
and pledged to do my best.
I summoned faith within my soul...
that put me to the test.
Forever may I love...
and faithfully believe,
and think some thoughts...
and dream some dreams...
forever to conceive.
